Macau entities held a record MOP310.6 billion (US$38.8 billion) in portfolio investments outside the city at the end of June, 18.4 percent more than at the end of last year.

A government survey found the greatest growth was in investments in long-term debt, which increased by 35.6 percent to MOP159.4 billion.

Investments in equities grew by 3.9 percent to MOP138.6 billion, with the lion’s share invested in mainland shares.

The shift to mainland equities appears to have been the expense of Hong Kong-listed equities, which made up a smaller proportion of external portfolio investments than before.
