The greatest beneficiaries of the border gate expansion will be the operators with exposure to Cotai, Union Gaming Research Macau says.

Analyst Grant Govertsen said in a note to clients that Cotai operators have the ability to handle increasing levels of “mass mass” market customers.

“Operators with exposure only to the Macau peninsula are generally capacity constrained already and are therefore likely to benefit less from increased ‘mass mass’ visitation or incremental time in market of ‘mass mass’ visitors, he says.

According to the Chinese-language newspaper Ou Mun, the expanded immigration facilities on the mainland side of the border with Macau should become operational over the coming weekend.

Mr Govertsen added that there are no plans for extended summer hours at the Gongbei border.

However, the Hengqin/Cotai border may receive three additional operating hours by the end of this year, which will also benefit Cotai gaming operators.
