Contractors depressing wages, newspaper says

Construction companies are curbing costs by depressing wages, Business Daily reports.

The newspaper infers this from official data, which indicate that the real wages of construction workers that are Macau residents have increased by 29 percent since 2010, and that the real wages of all construction workers, including migrant workers, have decreased by 2 per cent.

Business Daily says the rate of increase in the pay of construction workers has failed to keep up with the annual rate of consumer price inflation, which has averaged 6 per cent.
