The annual rate of consumer price inflation slowed to 4.23 per cent last month from 4.64 percent the month before, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service attributes the inflation mainly to increases in rents for housing and the cost of eating out.

The annual rate of housing and fuel price inflation was 6.05 per cent.

The annual rate of alcoholic drink and tobacco price inflation was 38.42 percent, because of the increase in tobacco taxes in July.
