Consumer price inflation hit 5.31 pct last month

The annual rate of consumer price inflation was 5.31 percent last month, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says higher restaurant bills, pricier holidays, costlier healthcare and rising rents were the main drivers of inflation.

Housing and fuel price inflation was 10.74 percent, healthcare cost inflation was 6.38 percent and the prices of food and non-alcoholic drink grew by was 6.09 percent.

The average annual rate of inflation in the 12 months ended August 5.39 percent.

The average annual rates of inflation were 8.75 percent for housing and fuel prices and 6.76 percent for food and non-alcoholic drink prices.

The cost of education decreased at an average annual rate of 3.1 percent.
