The average daily wage of construction workers increased by 1.7 percent quarter-to-quarter, to MOP597 (US$75) in the first quarter, official data shows.

Wages of local construction workers increased by 1.6 percent to MOP699.

This is the highest level in two years.

However the wage index for all construction workers went down by 0.6 percent year-on-year in real terms, taking the city’s inflation rate into account, to 89 points in the January-March period.

This means that the purchasing power of construction staff has fallen by about 10 percent in the past two years.
