The Macau Civil Servants Association is demanding a pay rise of between 6 percent and 7 percent for all civil servants next year.

The union says the increases would counter the effects of inflation and the reduced purchasing power of its members.

The average annual rate of consumer price inflation was 5.4 percent in the 12 months ended September.

The union’s leader, José Pereira Coutinho, is due to meet Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On today.
