City’s culture vultures less ravenous in Q2

Some 284,000 people interviewed in the second quarter of this year had engaged in cultural activities in the preceding six months, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says the number was equivalent to 53.6 percent of the population aged 16 or older, 3.1 percentage points fewer than a year earlier.

The number of people that went to the cinema rose to 173,000, or 6.2 percent more than a year earlier.

The number that visited World Heritage sites fell by 21 percent to 88,000 but the number that visited museums rose by 19.7 percent to 81,000.

The number that went to libraries rose by 2.1 percent to 119,000.
