To build Cotai’s new casino-resorts, the city’s construction workforce must double, our sister publication Business Daily reports today.

The newspaper quotes Macau Construction Association chairman Lo Kai Jone, who argues that employing more migrant workers is the most efficient, low-cost way to meet demand for about 32,100 more construction workers.

Mr Lo says the government must relax labour policies, including the rule that construction companies must employ one resident worker for every migrant worker.

There were 21,943 migrant workers in the construction sector last month, 3,131 more than in July, official data show.
