Macau’s Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April this year is up by 6.36 percent when compared with the same period last year, according to figures released yesterday by the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). In comparison with February 2013, the price indices of housing and fuels, recreation and culture, and household goods and furnishings recorded notable year-on-year increases of 11.93 percent, 8.57 percent and 7.06 percent respectively during the period. These increases are due to higher rentals and rising charges for package tours and domestic services, according to the figures. The average Composite CPI for the first four months of 2014 increased by 6.18 percent year-on-year. For the 12 months ending in April 2014, the average Composite CPI rose by 5.78 percent from the corresponding preceding period.
