Beijing hands-off on gaming review, official says

The central government has given the Macau government no instructions about the forthcoming review of gaming licences, Secretary of the Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac has said.

Mr Leong told reporters that the review would look into whether the six holders of gaming licences had met their contractual obligations; their performance in developing attractions other than gaming; and the career opportunities they offered their employees.

He said in previous occasions that the government would consider the findings in modifying its policy on the gaming industry, including the number of licences granted and the rate of tax levied.
