The central government has approved a new Macau-Guangdong border crossing in the north of the peninsula, Vice-Premier Wang Yang has said.

The Macau Post Daily reports that the state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Mr Wang as saying so in a meeting with Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On.

Xinhua said the crossing would have a 450 metre covered bridge over the Canal dos Patos, which runs along the border.

Mr Wang is in Macau for the ministerial conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
