Annual inflation rate slows to 4.51 pct in April

The annual rate of consumer price inflation slowed to 4.51 per cent last month from 5.1 per cent the month before, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says higher rents for housing and the higher cost of eating in restaurants were the main drivers of inflation.

The annual rate of housing and fuel price inflation was 9.84 per cent and the annual rate of food and non-alcoholic drink price inflation was 4.73 per cent.

In contrast, there was annual deflation in recreation and culture costs, which fell by 1.43 per cent, and alcoholic drink and tobacco product prices, which fell by 1.4 per cent.
