Annual consumer price inflation 6.07 pct in August

The annual rate of consumer price inflation was a near-average 6.07 percent last month, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service attributed the inflation mainly to higher rents for housing and the higher cost of meals in restaurants.

Housing and fuel price inflation was 12.04 percent because of higher rents, while food and non-alcoholic drink price inflation was 5.93 percent because fresh pork and fruit were dearer. Communication costs fell by 0.17 percent.

The average annual rate of consumer price inflation in the 12 months ended August was 6.06 percent.
