Number of package tourists nears 1 mln in August

The number of package tourists that visited in August grew to 973,766, or 6.6 percent more than a year earlier, Statistics and Census Service data show.

Mainlanders made up 770,365 of the total.

In the first eight months of this year 6,469,508 package tourists visited, 11.1 percent more than a year earlier.

The number of visitors that stayed in hotels or guesthouses in August rose to 989,433, or 12.2 percent more than a year earlier.

The average length of stay of hotel guests was steady at 1.3 nights.

The average occupancy rate of hotels was 90.3 percent, 2.2 percentage points more than a year earlier.

In the first eight months the average occupancy rate fell by 1.5 percentage points from a year earlier to 81.8 percent.
