Factory orders slumped in the second quarter of this year to their lowest since records began in 2004, a Macau Economic Services survey has found.
Exporters had an average of 2.1 months of orders in the second quarter, 23.6 percent less than in the first quarter.
While textiles and clothing factories had orders for 2.5 months, the city’s other manufacturers had enough orders for 1.94 months.
The survey found orders from Africa were weak, and demand from the mainland and Europe were unlikely to improve.
Factory owners were generally more cautious.
Just 28.5 percent of exporters said they were confident about their businesses’ prospects. In the first quarter, the figure was 40.2 percent.
