Retail workforce up 13 pct to 26,840 by end-June

There were 26,840 workers employed in retailing at the end of the second quarter, a 13-percent increase over the same time last year.

The Statistics and Census Service’s latest manpower survey found that the average monthly earnings of retail workers was MOP11,250 (US$1,406) at the end of June, 9.1 percent more than a year earlier.

However the average monthly pay of sales representatives fell by 11.4 percent to MOP12,570. The average sales clerk salary increased by 5.9 percent to MOP10,080.

Retailers had 2,656 vacancies at the end of the second quarter.
