Housing Bureau revamp adds 70pct staff

The Housing Bureau (IH) will undergo a major revamp and increase staff numbers by 70 percent, including one deputy director and two new offices, in order to better cope with housing related services. The services include the construction of more public housing, stricter regulation surrounding property sales, and the inspection of construction works.
The Executive Council held a press conference yesterday at the government headquarters to announce the details of the changes to the Bureau’s structure, as well as the functions of its offices and agencies.
According to the Exco, the Bureau will have 92 more workers, bringing its total workforce numbers from 133 to 225, which will be rolled out in several phases. This includes a new deputy director – in addition to the existing one –  to better assist the director in handling the expected increase in workload. This workload will be a result of  IH and other departments taking over the construction of public housing estates, as well as the new works related to the licensing and regulating of real estate agencies’ operations.
As a result, Exco’s administrative dispatch has also decided to give two new offices to the Bureau. These include a licensing office and a research office, in order to cope with the new works and to provide better support services to the management.
