Manufacturing production index up by 10.5 percent

The manufacturing production index rose to 77.8 points in the first quarter of this year, 10.5 percent higher than a year earlier, official data shows.

This was highest in any first quarter since 2008.

Manufacturing output has been rising since 2009, having declined in the preceding six years, as the textiles industry contracted after quotas for international trade in textiles were abolished.
