Prices for tourists up by 7.90 percent in Q1

The Tourist Price Index for the first quarter of 2013 increased by 7.90 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Service said today.

The bureau said the increment was attributable to higher hotel room rates and charges for restaurant services, impacted by the Lunar New Year, which took place in February.

The Tourist Price Index for the first three months of 2013 rose by 0.28 percent quarter-to-quarter.

The average index for the year ended March increased by 5.57 percent from the previous period.

The Tourist Price Index aims to reflect the price changes of goods and services purchased by visitors.
