Macau advised to set reference prices for visitors

The Macau authorities should tell tourists roughly what prices they should pay for whatever they buy when visiting the city, Macau International Tourist Guide Association president Wu Wai Fong has said.

Ms Wu was speaking after the Hong Kong Travel Industry Council said it was considering setting reference prices for visitors to Hong Kong.

The idea is to counter an abusive practice by operators of cheap package tours of Macau or Hong Kong, which recoup their costs by making visiting groups of mainlanders shop in selected shops and taking a commission on the sales.
