Three Macau banks stop issuing contactless cards

Three Macau banks that issue contactless payment cards have stopped issuing them since the Hong Kong Monetary Authority found such cards to be insecure, Business Daily reports.

The newspaper quotes the Monetary Authority of Macau as saying so in writing.

The authority said the number of such cards issued in Macau cards was “very limited”.

It failed to identify the three banks that have stopped issuing them.

Business Daily says four Macau banks issue such cards.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority says a weakness in cards that employ near field communication technology allows the theft of private information about the holder.
