Typhoon limits golden week visits by mainlanders

A passing typhoon curbed the flow of Chinese tourists into Macau during the national Day golden week of holidays in the mainland, Bloomberg reports.

The news agency says Typhoon Mujigae made landfall in the mainland on October 4, the fourth day of the holidays, disrupting travel.

Citing Macau government figures, Bloomberg says the number of mainlanders arriving in the city on that day was 16 per cent lower than on the corresponding day last year.

The number of mainlanders arriving over the entire week of holidays was 7.1 per cent higher than in the corresponding period last year.
