Fiscal reserve would last for years, official says

The fiscal reserve is sufficient to cover over four years of government spending, Secretary of the Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac has said.

On July 31 the fiscal reserve contained MOP348.65 billion (about US$43.58 billion), official data show.

Mr Leong, speaking after visiting various business groups, stressed that the government’s finances were sound and that it would refrain from cutting spending on social welfare.
