Economy to keep shrinking in 2015, economist says

Economist Ricardo Siu Chi Sen expects Macau’s economy to keep contracting this year, Business Daily reports.

The newspaper quotes Mr Siu, a University of Macau associate professor of business economics, as saying: “The economic contraction is sure to remain for Macau for the rest of the year, but the decline for the third and fourth quarter could see a narrower deceleration rate [sic] compared to the first two quarters.”

Mr Siu forecasts that gross gaming revenue in Macau’s casinos will be about 30 per cent less than a year earlier in the third quarter but contract more slowly in the fourth.
