New constraint threatens Macau gaming, bank says

The campaign in the mainland against underground banking will probably further hamper the gaming industry in Macau by reducing the liquidity available to gambling junket operators, Deutsche Bank says.

“Macau junket agents often use the underground banking system to transfer money out of China to fund VIP players at Macau casinos,”  a note by the investment bank says.

“We think the heightening scrutiny of China’s underground banking system and cross-border money transfers may impact junket agents’ ability to move money into and out of Macau.”
