May package tourists decrease 1.1 pct to 688,000

The number of package tourists visiting Macau fell to 688,000 in May, 1.1 per cent fewer than a year earlier, official data indicate.

The Statistics and Census Service says 652,000 were mainlanders, 2 per cent fewer than a year earlier.

Fewer package tourists came from Hong Kong or Taiwan, Macau’s other main sources of visitors.

But more came from South Korea – before the outbreak there of the potentially deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.
