Q1 budget surplus shrinks 50.9 pct to MOP18.3 bln

The government’s budget surplus in the first quarter contracted to MOP18.3 billion (about US$2.29 billion) this year, 50.9 per cent less than a year earlier, official data show.

Financial Services Bureau figures indicate that the government spent more and had less tax revenue as the downturn in the gaming market persisted.

First-quarter revenue decreased by 32.2 per cent to MOP29.7 billion.

Spending increased by 73 per cent to MOP11.4 billion.
