Q1 deficit cut as exports grow faster than imports

The value of Macau’s merchandise exports rose to MOP2.7 billion (about US$337.5 million) in the first quarter of this year, 9.2 per cent more than a year earlier, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says domestic exports were worth MOP500 million, 8.2 per cent more, and re-exports MOP2.2 billion, 9.4 per cent more.

Notably, exports of tobacco products and wine increased by 50.8 per cent to MOP167.1 million.

The value of merchandise imports increased by 3.1 per cent to MOP22.3 billion, making the first quarter trade deficit MOP19.6 billion, 2.3 per cent less than a year earlier.
