Macau had 2.27 million visitors in March, 13.5 per cent fewer than a year earlier and the fewest since October 2012, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says the city had nearly 1.46 million visitors from the mainland, 17.6 pct fewer than a year earlier, and described the decrease as notable.

Fewer visitors came from Hong Kong and Taiwan, Macau’s other main sources of tourists.

The average visitor stayed 0.9 day, 0.1 day less than a year earlier. The average overnight visitor stayed 1.9 days and the average day-tripper 0.2 day.
