The index of the trade-weighted effective exchange rate of the pataca rose by 1.52 points last month to 105.9 points, indicating another increase in the currency’s value against the currencies of Macau’s main trading partners, the Monetary Authority of Macau says.

The international value of the US dollar, to which the pataca is indirectly pegged, has been increasing in recent months.

The Monetary Authority estimates that Macau’s foreign exchange reserves rose last month by 1.9 percent to MOP136.9 billion (US$17.14 billion).

The sum is the equivalent of 11 times the amount of patacas in circulation or 103 per cent of the broader M2 measure of money supply at the end of February.
