The Labour Affairs Bureau is proposing to increase the fines for breaking the law on occupational health and safety, an official of the bureau has said.
The official, Ng Peng Chi, told reporters that the proposal was to make the fines between three and five times heavier than they are now.
Another official of the bureau, Lam Iok Cheong, said seven industrial accidents in the city were fatal last year, but that the heaviest fine levied in consequence was MOP14,000, imposed on a building contractor.
