February visitors increase 4.5 pct to 2.68 mln

Macau had nearly 2.68 million visitors last month, 4.5 per cent more than a year earlier, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service attributed the increase to the Lunar New Year holidays falling this year in February, having fallen last year in January.

The number of day-trippers rose by 13.8 per cent to just under 1.57 million. The duration of the average visit decreased by 0.1 day to 0.9 day.

The number of mainlanders visiting rose by 10.7 per cent to nearly 1.9 million.

More visitors came from Taiwan and South  Korea, but fewer came from Hong Kong.
