Macau chief executive says govt finances healthy

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On has said his government’s finances are in good shape in spite of the slump in gaming.

Mr Chui said the government could rely on its surpluses, it fiscal reserves and its foreign currency reserves.

He was speaking to reporters in Beijing after a meeting with People’s Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan.

The chief executive said they had discussed the stability of Macau’s financial system, how best to use of the city’s fiscal reserves and the development of business there in renminbi.
