The government should help Macau’s recycling industry overcome increases in rents and labour costs and the problem of its unpredictable profits, Macau Recyclers Association president Chan Man Nin has said.
Mr Chan told Business Daily in an interview that profits were at the mercy of fluctuations in prices of the materials the industry recycles.
“Meanwhile, the cost of labour and rent has become very expensive here, which is a burden we have to shoulder,” he said.
Mr Chan said the industry had no clear direction from the government.
“The Environmental Protection Bureau actually introduced a Hong Kong consultancy to conduct research into our sector two years ago. And last year they did it again for a statistical study, which was supposed to be one that can serve as a basis for recycling policy. But still we’ve received no further news on this issue.”
