December home lending to outsiders grows 551.6 pct

Macau banks granted non-residents new mortgages for housing to the value of MOP175.8 million (US$21.98) in December, 551.6 per cent more than a year earlier, official data show.

The Monetary Authority of Macau says new mortgage lending to Macau residents increased by 19 per cent to MOP3.54 billion.

New mortgage lending to borrowers of both kinds grew by 23.8 per cent to MOP3.72 billion.

Of the total, MOP789.3 million was for borrowers to buy uncompleted homes, 456.6 per cent more than a year earlier.
