Wells Fargo says casinos quiet since holidays

Wells Fargo Securities says business in Macau’s casinos has been quiet since the mainland’s golden week of National Day holidays in the first seven days of this month.

“We believe that some of this weakness may be a result of cancelled China, Hong Kong [and] Macau tour groups,” the stockbroker says in a note.

“We believe it’s unlikely Macau-only tour groups will replace lost demand.”

Mainlanders that would otherwise go on tours that take in both Hong Kong and Macau have been deterred from taking such tours by political demonstrations in Hong Kong.
