Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) employees could see an average salary rise of between 5 and 6 percent this year.
SME Association vice-president Daniel Iong was quoted by Portuguese-language newspaper Jornal Tribuna de Macau as saying that the salary rise was mainly to cope with the announced 6.45 percent increase in salaries for civil servants.
He also says that a wage increase of up to 6 percent is reasonable and within employers capabilities.
But according to Mr Iong, employers are ever more worried about the future of SMEs as wages and operational costs continue to go up.
