June visitors increase 5 pct to 2.43 mln

Macau had some 2.43 million visitors last month, 5 percent more than a year earlier.

The Statistics and Census Service says 53 percent were day-trippers.

The number of visitors from the mainland rose by 9 percent to about 1.6 million.

The numbers from Taiwan, South Korea and Japan rose, while the number from Hong Kong fell.

The average visitor stayed 1.0 day, the same as a year earlier. The average overnight visitor stayed 1.9 days and the average day-tripper stayed 0.2 day.
