Unemployment steady in three months ended May

The unemployment rate was 1.7 percent in the three months ended May 31, remaining at its lowest on record for the fifth trimester in a row, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says the underemployment rate was at 0.4 percent, the same as in the three months ended April 30.

The number of unemployed was steady at 6,400 and the number of workers in employment was little changed at 381,100.

The labour force numbered 387,600 and the labour force participation rate was 73.3 percent.
