Unemployment rate remains unchanged

The unemployment rate between February and April this year remained unchanged at 1.7 percent compared to the figure for January to March. The underemployment rate also stayed at 0.4 percent. According to figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the total labor force reached 387,500. There was also a slight increase of 0.3 percentage points to 73.6 percent in the labor force participation rate. Total employment in the February-April period was 381,000, which is 3,100 more than in the January-March period. Analyzed by industry, employment in the construction sector rose 3.8 percent to 45,600.
The number of unemployed remained at 6,400, which is similar to the January-March figure. Among those unemployed, fresh graduates searching for their first job accounted for 7.2 percent of the total, down by 0.4 percentage points from the previous period. The labor force participation rate also increased by 1.8 percent compared to the February-April period in 2013. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate and the underemployment rate went down by 0.2 and 0.4 percent respectively.
