New mortgages for housing increase 38 pct in March

Financial institutions approved MOP3.5 billion (US$ 438.33 million) of new mortgage lending for housing in March, 38 percent more than the month before, official data show.

The Monetary Authority of Macau says 98.1 percent was lending to residents.

New mortgage lending for uncompleted housing fell by 16.1 percent to MOP115.8 million.

New mortgage lending for commercial property grew by 24.6 percent to MOP9.4 billion, of which 72.4 percent was lending to residents.
