Any tightening of controls on the entry of mainlanders to Macau could reduce the city’s gaming revenue by 3 percent to 5 percent, Bank of America Merrill Lynch time has said.
The investment bank said so after the Secretariat for Security disclosed that the authorities were considering shortening the time mainlanders entering Macau for the purpose of onward travel can stay in the city.
The secretariat said last week that 80 percent of mainlanders that entered Macau last year for onward travel simply stayed for a while and then went home, so avoiding having to get the usual types of visa a mainlander needs to visit the city.
