Unemployment steady at 1.7 pct in March trimester

The unemployment rate was 1.7 percent in the three months ended March 31, the same as in the three months ended February 28, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says the number of the unemployed was 6,400, about the same as before.

The underemployment rate was also steady, at 0.4 percent.

The number of workers in employment rose by 1,900 to 377,900.

The labour force numbered 384,200 and the labour force participation rate was 73.3 percent.

Median monthly earnings from employment were MOP13,000 (US$1,628) in the first quarter of this year, MOP700 more than in the preceding quarter.
