February package tourist influx rises to 851,000

The number of package tourists that visited Macau rose to 851,000 in February, 5 percent more than a year earlier, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service attributed the rise to the bulk of the Lunar New Year holidays having fallen this year in February.

Package tourists from the mainland numbered 645,000, 7 percent more than a year earlier. Another 59,000 came from Taiwan, 38,000 from South Korea and 36,000 from Hong Kong.

The average occupancy rate of Macau hotels and guesthouses was 92 percent in February, 15 percentage points more than a year earlier. Five-star hotels had the highest occupancy rate: 93 percent.

The average length of stay of hotel guests was 1.5 nights, 0.1 night more than a year earlier.
