The region’s Talent Development Committee held its first ordinary meeting yesterday, in which the basic principles to be followed during the selection were prescribed.
The Chief Executive, who directly heads the Committee, officiated the meeting yesterday at the government headquarters. Chui Sai On said that the Committee needs to prepare thoroughly this year, including building up appropriate mechanisms, researching and collecting data, as well as planning future projects.
Macau residents can participate in the selection by applying for themselves, or they can be recommended by enterprises or public authorities. Committees should be set up for every project to ensure a fair and just selection process. Face-to-face interviews are required and work achievements will be taken into account during screening, according to the Committee’s secretary general, Sou Chio Fai, who also heads the Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES).
Three ad hoc groups will be set up. They will be responsible for generating and implementing talent cultivation strategies and incentive schemes to develop a resurgence in local talent overseas.
In addition, the Committee will have an “expert bank” to pick out one to two professionals to join the screening procedure.
An investment in local training, especially a long-term mechanism, has been prioritized in the 2014 Policy Address, which was announced by the CE last year. The document categorized talents into “elite,” “professional” and “application-
oriented persons.” Sou said that they are working to announce schemes regarding “elite” and “application-oriented persons” within the year.
