New mortgage lending for housing leaps in January

The amount of new mortgages for housing jumped to MOP4.4 billion (US$550 million) in January, 45.2 percent more than the month before, Monetary Authority of Macau data show.

The amount approved by banks in January was 46.2 percent greater than a year earlier.

The value of new mortgages for commercial property shot up to MOP5.5 billion in January, 138.6 percent more than the month before and 46.7 percent more than a year earlier.
