Tam says no additional casino licences after 2020

There will be no increase in the number of gaming concessionaires when the current licences expire in 2020 and 2022, Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen says.

“There should be no increase to the number of gaming operators, which is six now,” he said.

But Mr Tam said the government had yet to decide the length of the new concessions.

Speaking during his trip to Beijing, he said the six casino operators faced “reasonable demands”, which included promoting Macau workers and using more Macau suppliers.

“The regulations for the gaming sector will also be stricter in the future,” he said.
