Bank deposits increase 6.3 pct in January

Deposits in Macau banks amounted to MOP722.9 billion (US$90.4 billion) in January, 6.3 percent more than the month before.

Monetary Authority of Macau data show deposits by residents rose by 4.1 percent to MOP450.3 billion, deposits by non-residents by 8.6 percent to MOP189.2 billion and deposits by the public sector by 13.3 percent to MOP83.4 billion.

Domestic loans to the private sector increased by 4.5 percent to MOP269 billion. External loans increased by 4.7 percent to MOP290.5 billion.

Loans as a proportion of deposits were 50.4 percent in January, 0.5 percentage point less than the month before.
