Unemployment rate drops to 1,7 percent

The unemployment rate in Macau dropped to 1,7 percent between November 2013 and January 2014. According to information provided by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the rate has further declined “as the job market has remained robust.” The number of unemployed people was 6,500, down by 300 from October to December 2013. According to data collected by DSEC, fresh labor force entrants on the hunt for their first job accounted for 14,6 percent of the total unemployed people, up by 1 percent. The total labor force was measured at 379,000 people, and the number of those who are employed reached 372,000, an increase of 1,700 between October and December 2013. In each industry’s analysis, DSEC found that employment in hotels, restaurants and similar activities increased by 1,9 percent.
